Ebook About Conor:It starts with a drunken text pic. The kind I would normally never send. Only, instead of it going to the flirty hotel bartender, it goes to some random stranger who actually responds.I tell myself an unexpected night of hot as hell back-and-forth is the perfect way to blow off a little steam while I’m in New York closing an important business deal. Little do I know the man on the other end of the line is none other than Wells Grange: the most controlling, egotistical, emotionless SOB I’ve ever met.I spend my days squaring off against Wells in the boardroom, and my nights succumbing to the sexy stranger’s commanding texts in the bedroom. Within days, I’m falling for someone I shouldn’t, and I have to remind myself that none of this is real.Wells:The first thing I notice about Conor Newell when he sits down in my high-rise conference room is how delightfully nervous he is. Then I see his tie. The same geeky tie that’s held hostage on my phone. The one that belongs to my anonymous late-night texter. And it changes everything.I should confess. Tell the truth about who I am. Instead, I decide there’s no harm in flirting. After all, once our business is concluded, he’ll be out of my life for good. The more I get to know Conor, however, the more I start to fall for him. Which is a problem, because I made a vow long ago to never let emotions interfere with my life, either business or personal. Except I can’t stop thinking about him night and day. If it’s only in my head, though, it doesn’t count. After all, it’s not like we’re falling for each other in real life...Book IRL: In Real Life (After Oscar Book 1) Review :
This was a really fun, well-written, sexy book and I pre-ordered the next in the series (LOL) based on this book (sadly, LOL was a hot mess). IRL has a familiar meet-cute, hot stranger sex with...someone who turns out to be your boss/colleague. But, it was done very well and had a bit of a modern twist with the sexy fun times being via text.Conor is in town to make a deal with Wells on behalf of his doctor mother, who is ill. Conor (thinking it's the cute bartender from his hotel) spends the night sexting with Wells and by the time they meet the next day Wells has figured out Conor's identity but Conor is still in the dark that the hated IRL Wells is the same hot, dominant man he's been sexting with. As the story goes on, Wells struggles with telling Conor who he is or continuing to bond anonymously over texts.Overall, I really enjoyed the book. The sexting scenes, holy hell, they were burning up my kindle. The writing was good (which made LOL even that much more disappointing); the characters were strong and had unique voices; and the pacing of the story was good with a resolution that felt believable. I also enjoyed the set up for the series with the introduction of Oscar, of course, and James - who I hope gets his own book.My two small nitpicks were that I felt like Wells changed a bit too fast based on who he was at the start of the book, and I felt like Conor seemed a bit too wimpy at times for someone who had gone through grad school (and business school in particular).=====================A general note about my reviews in case you're looking for similar books. I work in the mental health field IRL and reading is a way to decompress, so (generally) I will purposely choose books that deal with "lighter" subject matter. I favor books that deal with characters growing and resolving their personal/relationship difficulties and getting their HEA.**What I look for in a book: first and foremost, strong writing and editing (I hate typos!); racially diverse characters and/or secondary characters; stories about self-discovery, overcoming difficult childhoods or other obstacles but not crushing angst; stories and characters that are "realistic enough" (i.e. I doubt half the players on a hockey team are gay IRL, but for the sake of a well-written series, I can roll with it); well-written sex scenes; dual POV in the storytelling.**Themes I generally don't care for: "daddy" relationships (unless done really well); sub/dom stories; insta-love; sci-fi/fantasy; mpreg; shifters; lots of kink; GFY (again, unless done really well); kidnapping or bodyguard stories; crazy/violent/stalker exes; MCs with severe mental health issues, severe trauma, or substance abuse/addiction IRL is a good start to a new series and a new working relationship. I could not tell which author was contributing what parts of this book. That could be good or bad. Well, in this case, it is good.It did take me a little bit to realize that there wouldn't be a notable "Lucy" offering, that it would all flow together so seamlessly, that I couldn't tell where one author ended and the other began. After that, I just sat back and enjoyed it.Wells started out as the quintessential rich man, cold-hearted and only looking for the next dollar or the next business conquest. He quickly morphed into more. I liked the way he wasn't made to be such a bad guy that the reader would hate him before loving him. I enjoyed that moment early on where I said “There you are!” when I saw the man hidden from his world. His aha moment was no less enjoyable when he realized that he could be better, that he already was but just had to let it show.Conor is a sweet, giving, character with a strong love for home and family and I enjoyed his personality tremendously. These characters are interesting, passionate and a beautiful couple. The sexy times are scorching, and the HEA is believable and satisfying. The secondary characters are appealing and are supportive of the storyline. There are many feels in this book, and I enjoyed them all.
